Symptoms of Sugar Shock…

In my last blog, I promised to tackle the issue as to why the sugar-cancer link is not being publicized, but before I do that I just wanted to post a list of symptoms of sugar shock. Please bear in mind that this list is not comprehensive. It is simply a list of some of the more common symptoms. The ones with an asterisk * after them are ones that I have suffered from at some point in my life. How many do you suffer from?

1.    Mood Swings*
2.    Temper tantrums*
3.    Crying spells*
4.    Drowsiness*
5.    Overwhelming fatigue* (or the reverse- being wired*)
6.    Insomnia or sleeping difficulties*
7.    Waking up exhausted*
8.    Craving for sweets*
9.    Sleeping too much*
10.  Headaches*
11.  Difficulty concentrating*
12.  Mental confusion*
13.  Restlessness*
14.  Anxiety*
15.  Depression*
16.  Irritability*
17.  Heart palpitations
18.  Dizziness and vertigo*
19.  Forgetfulness*
20.  Fainting
21.  Light-headedness*
22.  Nightmares
23.  Aching eye sockets*
24.  Ravenous hunger between meals*
25.  Severe PMS*
26.  Unnecessary worrying*
27.  Feel best after 7pm*
28.  Digestive problems
29.  Muscle pains*
30.  Joint pains*
31.  Cold hands and feet*
32.  Internal trembling*
33.  Indecisiveness*
34.  Nervousness*
35.  Sensitivity to light and noise*
36.  Peculiar breath/ perspiration (not that I’m aware of, lol)
37.  Lack of coordination*
38.  Suicidal thoughts or tendencies*
39.  Anorexia and bulimia
40.  Muscular twitching or cramps*
41.  Antisocial or unsocial behavior*
42.  Itching or crawling sensations on the skin*
43.  Sighing and yawning*
44.  The shakes when hungry*

Some of these do seem very general and could also be caused by other things, but already many of these have symptoms have disappeared since I reduced my sugar intake, however some symptoms remain. Soon, I think, I will completely eliminate sugar for 1 month as a trial to see how my body responds. Pretty much my only indulgence is in alcohol though, so that just means I’ll quit drinking for a month :-P

Aside from a few remaining symptoms though, I felt significantly better within 1 week of eliminating sugar from my diet, so if you suffer from a majority of the symptoms above as I did, or even just a few, you might want to try cutting out the sugar just for 1 week or 2 to see how you feel.

Please also share this with anyone you feel might find it interesting or useful. And as always, please share any thoughts, advice, or questions you might have!

Ciao,
Heather
